Wayfarer Unveil ‘Grey Country’ With Munly J Munly and Rebecca Vera
Denver heavy-music shapeshifters Wayfarer have released “Grey Country,” the third and final single from their sixth album, Riders of the Setting Sun, due November 20 through Vesperian.
The track features Munly J Munly and Rebecca Vera, longtime collaborators tied to Denver’s gothic-Americana world through Slim Cessna’s Auto Club, Munly & The Lupercalians and DBUK. Their appearance follows David Eugene Edwards’ guest turn on the earlier single “Perdition’s Crossing,” extending the record’s bridge between Colorado extreme metal and the darker roots music surrounding it.
“Grey Country” moves with a slow, brooding pulse rather than a conventional metal attack. Wayfarer frames the song around desolate Western atmosphere, post-punk guitar textures and themes of legacy, guilt and the things people cling to when everything else disappears.
Ben Chisholm, known for his work with Chelsea Wolfe, produced Riders of the Setting Sun. The album is being positioned as a decisive expansion of Wayfarer’s sound, pulling gothic Americana, folk, post-punk and rock ’n’ roll further into the band’s established black-metal foundation.
The album will be available digitally and in multiple CD, cassette and vinyl editions. “Grey Country” is the last advance track before the full record arrives, making it the clearest final look at the direction Wayfarer have chosen for this chapter.
