Alice Cooper’s ‘Devil on My Shoulder’ Memoir Tops International Bestseller Lists
Alice Cooper’s new memoir, Devil on My Shoulder, has become an international bestseller, reaching No. 1 on The Sunday Times nonfiction list in the United Kingdom after entering the chart at No. 7 the previous week.
The book is also making a strong showing across North America. Official campaign materials report a No. 4 debut on The New York Times nonfiction list, No. 9 on The Globe and Mail’s Canadian nonfiction list and No. 3 on Publishers Weekly’s hardcover nonfiction ranking. Cooper’s official channels confirmed the New York Times placement, while the Associated Press-published Publishers Weekly list also placed the memoir at No. 3.
Released Oct. 6 in the United States and Canada and Oct. 8 in the U.K., Devil on My Shoulder was published by Da Capo Press, an imprint of Grand Central Publishing and Hachette Book Group, in North America and by Ebury, part of Penguin Random House, in the U.K.
The memoir looks back across Cooper’s six-decade career while focusing on the tension between Vincent Furnier and the Alice Cooper character he created. Its subjects include the theatrical ideas behind the concerts, the realities of addiction and recovery, and stories that became part of rock folklore, including the infamous chicken incident.
The chart performance shows continued interest in Cooper’s story well beyond the concert stage. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer remains active on the road, with his Alice’s Attic North American tour scheduled to run from Oct. 27 through Nov. 21. He then returns to Las Vegas for Welcome to Our Nightmare, a co-production with Criss Angel set for Nov. 27–29 and Dec. 4–6.
