Machine Head Close UNATØNED Era With Surprise Single ‘SUTURES’

Machine Head have surprise-released “SUTURES,” a new standalone single that arrives as the Oakland metal veterans close the chapter surrounding their latest album, UNATØNED.

The band announced the track through its official website on October 20. “SUTURES” is Machine Head’s first new single since UNATØNED arrived in April, and it extends the record’s combination of sharp melodic hooks, groove-heavy riffs and modern production without opening a newly announced album campaign.

The timing gives the release added weight. In an October 10 statement titled “The End of an Era,” frontman Robb Flynn said the UNATØNED cycle was ending after roughly a year and a half marked by personnel changes, crew turnover, difficult stretches and some of the band’s strongest shows. “SUTURES” now functions as a final piece from that period rather than the first preview of a confirmed follow-up album.

That distinction matters for listeners following Machine Head’s next move. The band has not announced a new studio album alongside the song, so any larger project remains unconfirmed. For now, “SUTURES” stands as a surprise closing statement from the UNATØNED era.
