Tony Iommi’s From the Dark is out today, October 23, through BMG, giving the Black Sabbath guitarist his first solo album in 21 years. The release also brings a new lyric video for opening track “Over the Violent Sun.”

The eight-song record pairs Iommi with vocalist Jorn Lande, who shares writing credits on every song. Becky Baldwin plays bass and Karl Brazil handles drums, while Iommi co-produced the album with longtime collaborator Mike Exeter.

For listeners who know Iommi through Sabbath’s foundational heavy riffs, this is a substantial new chapter rather than a catalogue reissue. From the Dark follows 2005’s Fused and arrives after Black Sabbath’s final performance at Birmingham’s Back to the Beginning concert in 2025.

Previously released single “World Alone” is part of a track list that runs from “Over the Violent Sun” through “Black Times,” “Beyond the Dead,” “Stormwatcher,” “Death Wake,” “Return of the Arbalist” and closing song “Legacy.”

The album is available digitally and in CD and vinyl editions. The deluxe CD adds “Scent of Dark” and an extended version of “Deified,” giving collectors two additional tracks beyond the standard album.
