Of Virtue Unleash Dark New Album Death Of The Altar

Michigan metalcore force Of Virtue have released their new album, Death Of The Altar, through Arising Empire. The 11-song record arrived October 2 and pushes the band into heavier, darker territory without sacrificing the massive choruses that helped turn 2023’s Omen into a streaming breakthrough. The label describes the album as a collision of crushing riffs, industrial electronics, atmospheric production and the contrasting vocals of Tyler Ennis and Damon Tate.

Of Virtue are already familiar to The Sound 228 listeners. We previously put “The End” into the Grudge Match, giving South Mississippi an early look at the band’s latest chapter. Now that song sits inside a complete record built around devotion, obsession and the moment something—or someone—you once worshipped begins destroying you. That theme runs through songs including “Enemy State,” “What’s It Like to Be Happy?,” “Flatline” and “Devotion.” The closing track, “Can’t Keep Knockin’ Me Down,” adds a defiant counterpunch: the refusal to stay trapped by the people and forces responsible for the damage.

Arriving with the album is “Too Late,” an urgent metalcore track driven by punishing riffs, melodic hooks and alternating clean and screamed vocals. Lyrically, it confronts regret, selfishness and the realization that some damage may already be irreversible.

Death Of The Altar follows a major period of growth for Of Virtue. According to Arising Empire, Omen helped propel the band beyond 65 million streams across digital platforms and four million YouTube views. The group has also toured alongside Slipknot, Gojira, Bad Omens, Nothing More, Three Days Grace, The Used and Parkway Drive, while appearing at festivals including Welcome to Rockville, INKcarceration and Louder Than Life.

The current lineup features Tyler Ennis on vocals, Damon Tate on vocals and guitar, Michael Valadez on guitar and Ryan Trinh on drums.
