The Sphere empire is expanding

A scaled-down version of the jaw-dropping Las Vegas Sphere is officially headed to National Harbor, Maryland, after state and county leaders greenlit plans alongside Sphere Entertainment over the weekend. The new dome won’t be as massive as its 18,600-seat Vegas counterpart, but don’t mistake “smaller” for tame — this version is set to pack in 6,000 seats, cutting-edge LED displays, and the same mind-bending special effects that have turned the original Sphere into one of the most talked-about venues in entertainment.

Maryland isn’t the only city on the radar, either. A similar Sphere is also in development for Abu Dhabi, signaling a bold push to build a global network of next-level venues.

“Our focus has always been on creating a global network of Spheres across forward-looking cities,” said James L. Dolan, CEO of Sphere Entertainment.

Not every city has been sold on the vision. Plans for a London Sphere were scrapped in 2024 after Mayor Sadiq Khan rejected the proposal, citing concerns over light pollution, traffic congestion, and the impact on local residents.

Love it or hate it, the Sphere concept isn’t slowing down — it’s multiplying. 🌐🎸
