The Funeral Portrait Finish Recording Their Next Rock-Opera Album

The Funeral Portrait has officially completed recording its next studio album, marking the beginning of another theatrical chapter for one of Active Rock’s fastest-rising bands.
Vocalist Lee Jennings announced the milestone while celebrating his birthday on September 30. The still-untitled project was created with Point North frontman and in-demand producer and songwriter Jon Lundin.

The Sound 228 has a special history with The Funeral Portrait. We were one of the first radio stations to play and support the band early in its signed career, making this next chapter especially exciting for our listeners.
Jennings described the record as the next “rock opera” chapter in The Funeral Portrait’s story. He said the creative connection with Lundin was immediate and praised the producer for understanding the vision he wanted to bring to life.
The album’s first single will be the first song the band wrote with Lundin. Jennings said he was preparing to hear its initial mix when he shared the update, although the song’s title and release date remain under wraps.

The Funeral Portrait Is Building a Bigger World
This will not simply be a collection of unrelated songs.
Jennings previously revealed that the band recorded live strings, piano and a choir for the project. Featured artists will reportedly portray characters inside the album’s larger story, allowing each collaboration to contribute to the narrative instead of functioning as a conventional guest appearance.
The band has indicated that new music is expected before the end of 2026, but it has not officially announced the album’s title, tracklist, label or release date.
Lundin brings extensive modern-rock experience to the project. In addition to fronting Point North, he has worked as an engineer with artists including Atreyu, Good Charlotte, 311 and 5 Seconds of Summer; produced bands such as Sleeping With Sirens and State Champs; and collaborated with Set It Off and Against The Current.
Following Greetings From Suffocate City
The upcoming album follows 2024’s Greetings From Suffocate City and its expanded 2025 deluxe edition. That era pushed The Funeral Portrait into the center of modern Active Rock through theatrical storytelling, a growing Coffin Crew fanbase and collaborations with artists including Spencer Charnas, Ivan Moody, Bert McCracken, Danny Worsnop and Lilith Czar.
The band also built major radio momentum, including multiple No. 1 Mainstream Rock songs. “Dark Thoughts” became its third consecutive Mainstream Rock Airplay chart-topper in early 2026.
With recording now complete and the first single moving into the mixing process, The Funeral Portrait’s next era is officially underway.
