Set for the Fall is stepping into a new phase since we last covered them in the January 2026 issue of The Sound 228. The band is now moving in a sharper direction and a more defined structure after their signing with Vere Records earlier this year.

Their new single, "Never Again," dropped on March 27, with the official video set to release on April 3, a short run of dates alongside Ashes Remain and Steven Stanley already on the horizon.

We caught up with vocalist Joey Lassiter to talk about the signing, the new release, and what's changed behind the scenes.

When did Set for the Fall officially sign with Vere Records, and how did that come together?

Joey: In January 2026, we were introduced through our bass player, who works for a company that does business with Vere.

What changed immediately after signing—and what’s stayed the same?

Joey: What changed was our mentality toward the business side, weekly meetings discussing plans, and how we’re going to make this the best era of the band. What stayed the same was our determination to put out the best songs and live shows we can give to the fans.

When we spoke earlier for The Sound 228, you were in a different place—what’s the biggest shift in mindset since then?

Joey: The mindset is def changed for the better. We are focused on new music and pushing ourselves not only as musicians but in a business sense, and understanding how this all works. We want to be bigger and better than we ever have.

What’s something about getting signed that people completely misunderstand?

Joey: I think the first thing they think is money, and you have made it in some sort of way, but to be honest, that’s when you have to work even harder and put even more thought and energy into the music and live shows to stay relevant and stand out against all the other bands.

What’s the title of the new single, and what made this the right track to release right now?

Joey: “Never Again” is the newest single.  It’s a statement from us that we won’t be overlooked or taken advantage of in our personal lives or musical careers anymore.

Was this song written before or after the signing—and did that affect how it came together?

Joey: It was written before, and no, not really, because we have had a Vision for our next project and what it means to us for a while.

What’s the core idea or emotion behind the track without overexplaining it?

Joey: I definitely have a tendency to do that, so let’s just say—fed up.

Did anything about your writing or recording process change with the label involved?

Joey: No, not really, just working at a faster pace and having to meet certain deadlines to keep up with how this new industry is forming. People want new music all the time, and release windows are closer than they used to be.

What part of the song took the longest to get right?

Joey:  For me, it was the choruses due to the harmonies, and we always spend so much time on the hook as a band.

Does this track reflect where the band is heading, or is it one piece of a bigger shift?

Joey: That’s more complicated. Because, honestly this was written in a certain time period, and I’ll just say it’s a snapshot of where we were at the time and just like anything it’s a piece of us now, and it is where we were and a great place to now reflect on so we remember where we have been and mentally a place we don’t want to be again.

How much creative control do you actually have right now with the label involved?

Joey: Full control over the content and music, but we do operate on their time schedule, and honestly, they are bound like everyone else on trends of social media and streaming platforms, with how content is released as a standard. Other than that, they let us do what we do, which is awesome and so thankful for.

What’s next for Set for the Fall following this release?

Joey: Well, we are touring, and there is more music on the way, is all I will say, but we are back in full swing, so keep watching!
