Scary Kids Scaring Kids Lock In New Lineup and Announce RISE

Scary Kids Scaring Kids have made the lineup behind their current era official.

The Arizona post-hardcore band have welcomed vocalist Albert Schweizer and bassist/vocalist Colton “Coba” Westerman as permanent members. The announcement arrives alongside “Something In The Water,” the first single from the band’s newly confirmed album, RISE, due January 8, 2027.

Guitarist/vocalist Chad Crawford and keyboardist/vocalist Pouyan Afkary remain at the heart of Scary Kids Scaring Kids. Guitarist Josh Kikta and drummer Kash Jaeger also contributed to RISE and will continue working with the band as touring and studio musicians.

Albert Schweizer Becomes the Band’s Permanent Voice

Schweizer has performed with Scary Kids Scaring Kids since 2023, but his promotion to full member represents a major shift for the reunited band.

Following the 2014 death of original frontman Tyson Stevens, Scary Kids Scaring Kids initially avoided naming a permanent replacement. Their 2022 comeback album, Out of Light, featured a different guest vocalist on every song, including Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills, Noah Sebastian of Bad Omens, Lil Lotus and Cove Reber of Saosin.

The band continued that collaborative approach on 2025’s Maps Written in Water. Schweizer appeared on that album’s single “Suspended in Air” and gradually became the group’s primary live vocalist.

Crawford and Afkary said the decision was not something they wanted to force, explaining that Schweizer had already become an essential part of the band both onstage and behind the scenes.

Westerman has followed a similar path, moving from the touring lineup into full-time membership.

RISE Begins a More Focused Chapter

“Something In The Water” is the first recording released by the newly solidified lineup. Its arrival signals a more unified direction after the rotating-vocalist format used across the band’s previous two albums.

That makes RISE an important record in the Scary Kids Scaring Kids story. Instead of building the album around an extensive guest list, the band now has an established voice and rhythm section carrying its combination of post-hardcore urgency, melodic hooks and metalcore weight.

The complete tracklist, label information and detailed production credits have not yet been announced.

For listeners who discovered Scary Kids Scaring Kids through The City Sleeps in Flames or the band’s self-titled 2007 album, this is the clearest sign yet that the reunion has developed into a permanent creative future.
