This is one of my favorite kinds of stories to write. It’s the story about a musician who realized that a change was needed, and took a leap of faith and possibly found something even better than what he had previously. Saturns Downfall is a three-member hard rock band based in York, Pennsylvania, and was the brainchild of drummer Brady Hearn. The band has released four awesome songs since July, including the most recent one, “Chasing Gravity”, which dropped November 14th and includes the band’s first-ever music video.
In addition to Brady, Saturns Downfall includes vocalist Colby Bennett and Brady’s dad, guitarist Scott Hearn. When Brady left his previous band, it wasn’t about starting something new right away. He was, essentially, looking to get himself back. He had spent years pouring himself into projects that he didn’t feel fully represented him. When he stepped away, his only real goal was to create again without limits or noise.

Brady started writing, experimenting, and producing on his own, just to feel that spark again. And that’s what led him to starting Saturns Downfall. There was really no master plan at the beginning. As Brady told me, “It was just me making music that felt honest, heavy, emotional, and completely true to who I am as an artist.”

Once the songs started taking shape, Brady brought Colby in, and his dad, Scott, jumped in on guitar, and suddenly it wasn’t just a project anymore — it felt like the band he had been trying to find for years. The chemistry, the vision, the sound . . . everything clicked in a way he’d never experienced before.
Brady was excited to tell me the story behind the band’s name, Saturns Downfall. He told me he actually had that name in his notes and in the back of his mind for years, and was just waiting for the right band to bring it to life. He’s always been fascinated by space, and Saturn has always been his favorite planet. “There’s something powerful, mysterious, and larger-than-life about it that’s always grabbed me.”
At the same time, Brady said he’s always loved the word “Downfall” as part of a band name. It has this dramatic, intense, unmistakably rock energy to it — almost legendary in its own way. One day those two ideas clicked together, and Saturns Downfall instantly felt like a name that would roll off the tongue and stick with you.
When the new band started taking shape — the huge choruses, the emotional weight, the dark atmosphere — Brady felt like finally the name truly matched the sound. He’s always gravitated toward bands with iconic names like Avenged Sevenfold, Breaking Benjamin, and Three Days Grace — names that feel big before you even hear a note. That’s exactly what Saturns Downfall felt like to him, and he knew this was the project it was meant for.

Saturns Downfall is the perfect combination of three like-minded musicians coming together to create art that is meaningful to them all. Brady told me he has been in and out of bands ever since he started playing drums with his dad, Scott. Music has always been a way for the two of them to stay connected. When the idea for this project first came about, it was actually supposed to be what Brady called “an instrumental passion project” – just the two of them, him and his dad, writing and creating for the love of it.
But as the songs started taking shape, both of them felt they were too powerful to stay instrumental. That’s when Colby entered the picture. Colby and Brady have been in multiple bands together over the last decade, and they’ve always had a natural chemistry when it comes to writing and creating. They took different paths for a few years, both growing individually and working on other projects, but somehow everything led them right back to this moment. Brady shared that It feels full-circle — like all those years of experience finally came together for something bigger than any of them expected.
Now you have this trio: Brady’s dad, Scott, bringing his guitar style and musical instincts; Colby bringing his incredible voice and songwriting; and Brady driving the rhythm and production. Brady said it’s the most balanced and creatively fulfilling lineup any of them have ever been part of.

The songwriting process for Saturns Downfall varies with each track. In the early stages, with songs like “Bury The Beast” and “Lost In The Echoes”, Brady and his dad already had core instrumentals written and structured before vocals were added.
With their newer releases like “Stardust” and “Chasing Gravity”, Colby came in and added his own ideas, and they built the full song together from there.
Brady shared, “It really just depends on who brings the initial spark to the table. Sometimes the instrumentals come first, sometimes the vocal idea leads the way. The main thing is that we all keep an open mind — everyone contributes creatively, and we push each other to make every song the best it can be.”
Saturns Downfall’s production is a completely do-it-yourself process. Everything you hear is done fully in-house by Colby and Brady. They write, record, mix, and master all of the songs themselves. Colby has his own home studio setup, and Brady does as well. They’re constantly sending files and mix ideas back and forth to each other, pretty much on a daily basis, until the track hits the exact vision they’re looking for. Brady said doing it themselves is what makes it so special.

Brady told me that for him, instrumentally — especially on the drums — this project has been about finally getting to create authentically again. In his previous band, he didn’t actually play drums on the recordings for years, so there was this huge part of him that had been bottled up. Saturns Downfall became the outlet for all of that. Every fill, every groove, every transition . . . it’s Brady rediscovering what he loves and pushing himself to build something powerful and emotional.
Regarding song topics, there is a real personal core behind the music Saturns Downfall is creating. That being said, while the topics come from their own experiences, the goal is always to make them universal — something listeners can see themselves in, even if the story starts with the band members. Every listener is going to interpret these songs through their own lens, which the band loves.
Brady said, “Lyrically these songs come from a deeply personal place for Colby — everything he’s been through over the last few years, all the highs, lows, and internal battles. There’s a lot of honesty in what he writes, and I think that’s why people connect with it so quickly.”

I was able to ask vocalist Colby Bennett more about the lyrics. He shared, “Chasing Gravity is a raw reflection on addiction’s endless loop — the rush, the fall, and the fight to rise again. The song uses gravity as a metaphor for the irresistible pull that keeps us tethered to our vices, capturing the painful yet hopeful path from chains to liberation.”
Saturns Downfall is unafraid to create songs about topics that might seem dark, but the final message is that you can pull yourself out of that darkness and find the light that will guide you to a better future. It’s very relatable to anyone who is struggling in their own lives. Musically, I am so impressed by this band’s combination of complex guitar riffs, thunderous drumming, and Brady’s spectacular vocals. Saturns Downfall is off to a great start, and I’m excited to hear a lot more from this band going forward.
The music video for “Chasing Gravity” is the first for Saturns Downfall, and it is fantastic. They worked with Eric Taylor Parker of SeventhSide Productions. The band is incredibly proud of this video. Brady said he had worked with Eric previously on a few videos with his previous band, so he already had a trust and familiarity with him.
“Eric is a guy who makes you feel at home as soon as you step on the set. He’s super talented, down to earth, and honestly feels like a big brother guiding you through the whole process. Eric absolutely crushed it. He brought the whole thing to life flawlessly and delivered something powerful in such a short amount of time, and that’s one of the reasons I love working with him.”

As far as the concept, Brady said it came together pretty naturally. “We knew we wanted something simple but powerful — a performance-driven video that lets the emotion of the song speak. Eric took that idea, added his vision, and we all built it together on set. Even the color choices ended up lining up perfectly with the single artwork, which made the whole thing feel cohesive and meant-to-be.”

Brady shared that with “Chasing Gravity”, he believes this is the first time he’s ever been in a video that visually feels uplifting and positive. He loves that you can clearly see each member, feel their energy, and get a real sense of who Saturns Downfall is. I love the red and black color scheme of the video, and the background on the screen behind the band looks like stars in outerspace, which is fitting for the songs name. There is a moment in the middle of the video when the screen spins, and there are some other parts in the way the video was edited that give that space-like ambience. It’s really well-done!
Bassist Tyler Travis of the Central Pennsylvania-based band KVRMA made a special appearance in the video. Tyler is a very well-respected and talented musician and a super nice person, and he and Brady are good friends. Brady said he would love to work with Tyler again in the future!

Brady said the band is incredibly excited for what’s ahead for Saturns Downfall. Their plan is to release a brand new single every month. They have so much music between the three of them that they’re confident in, and with every new song they feel like they’re leveling up and pushing themselves further.
Saturns Downfall plans on starting rehearsals in December with a goal of hitting the stage sometime in the spring or summer of 2026. They want their live show to be tight, explosive, and absolutely worth the wait for their fans who want to see them perform. There are also more music videos on the horizon.
Brady shared, “The reaction to ‘Chasing Gravity’ has lit a fire in us, and we want to keep that momentum going. More than anything, my focus is to push this band to its fullest potential — naturally, not forced. Just passion, honesty, and the hardest work I’ve ever put into a project.”
He concluded, “We’re beyond grateful for everyone who’s supported Saturns Downfall so far. This project means everything to us, and we can’t wait to show everyone what’s coming next.”
