Plush Headline The Rex Theatre MD

Lisa recently caught up with the ladies in plush at The Rex Theatre in Leonardtown, MD whilst they were on their headline tour across the US.

Could 2024 be The Year of Plush? It certainly seems like that might be the case with the way it’s starting out for this super-talented band. Big tours, festivals, and a new EP are setting this quartet of female rockers up for a big year ahead.

Plush is a band comprised of four women in their twenties who are talented beyond their years. Band members include: Moriah Formica (singer/songwriter/guitarist); Bella Perron (lead guitarsist); Ashley Suppa (bassist); and Faith Powell (drummer). In just a few years of existence, prior to 2024 Plush had traveled the world supporting bands such as Kiss, Alice In Chains, Evanescence, Daughtry, and Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators, among others, and also performed at festivals such as Louder Than Life, Rocklahoma, and Welcome To Rockville.

From the band’s website, Plush is described as “a rock band with a mission to bring rock back to the forefront of the music industry”. The band formed in the Albany, New York suburb of Latham in January 2021 by singer/guitarist Moriah Formica, bassist Ashley Suppa, and former drummer Brooke Colucci. Lead guitarist Bella Perron joined later that month, after she replied to the band’s Instagram post looking for a guitar player that was reposted by Halestorm lead vocalist Lzzy Hale. Brooke Colucci left the band in 2022, and Faith Powell took over behind the kit.

Plush released a debut single, “Hate”, February 10th, 2021. The band’s first show was opening for Daughtry at Fraze Pavilion in Kettering, Ohio, July 31st, 2021. Plush made such an impact on the audience that day that the band got a standing ovation at their first-ever show. Later in 2021, October 29th, the band released its self-titled debut album, Plush. This album included two top-40 charting songs – “Hate” and “Better Off Alone”.

The most recent release for Plush is the Find The Beautiful EP, which dropped January 19th. There are six songs on the EP, including “Left Behind”, which placed on Billboard’s Top 40 Active Rock Chart. A notable track on the EP is the spectacular cover of Heart’s “Barracuda”. An interesting fact is that at Plush’s very first show in July 2021, they played “Barracuda”, which is what really got the crowd going and led to that unforgettable standing ovation. It was one of the first songs the band learned together, and they really enjoyed recording the studio version for the new EP. Find The Beautiful shows a maturity in Plush’s music and an evolution of their sound from their earlier work. Moriah has a powerful voice that meshes well with the double guitars and the thunderous bass and drums.
