Cold Announce Major Lineup Changes as Drummer Tony Kruszka Undergoes Medical Testing

Cold have announced two significant lineup changes affecting the alternative-metal veterans during their current UK and European tour.

The band revealed on September 24 that drummer Tony Kruszka was recently hospitalized with a stomach condition. Kruszka is undergoing medical testing as doctors work to determine what is causing the problem.

The health issue prevented Kruszka from joining Cold for the band’s current overseas run with (hed)p.e. El Drumwrench has temporarily stepped behind the kit while Kruszka focuses on his health.

Cold asked fans to send their support to the drummer while he undergoes testing.

Ed Cuozzo Steps Away From Cold

Cold also confirmed that guitarist and vocalist Ed Cuozzo has left the band to devote his full attention to University Drive.

Cuozzo joined Cold in 2023 and contributed to the band’s live performances over the past several years. According to Cold’s statement, the growing momentum behind University Drive convinced Cuozzo that it was time to concentrate completely on that project.

Despite his departure, the relationship between Cuozzo and Cold remains positive. The band praised his dedication, musicianship and contributions while making it clear that Cold and University Drive could share the road again in the future.

Dave Pike Joins the Touring Lineup

Dave Pike, who previously worked as Cold’s guitar technician, has stepped into Cuozzo’s position for the immediate future.

Cold described Pike as an accomplished guitarist who is already familiar with the band, its music and its touring operation. He joins El Drumwrench in the revised lineup as Cold continues its scheduled overseas dates.

The band’s remaining UK and European shows currently include stops in Exeter, Liverpool, Manchester, Dublin, Belfast, Glasgow, Newcastle, Wolverhampton, Nottingham, Norwich, London, Milton Keynes and Brighton.

A Period of Change for Cold

Cold have built a devoted following through their emotionally heavy combination of post-grunge, alternative metal and hard rock. Records such as 13 Ways to Bleed on Stage and Year of the Spider helped establish the band as an important part of the early-2000s rock landscape.

The latest announcement marks a period of unexpected change for the group, but Cold are continuing forward while supporting Kruszka’s recovery and wishing Cuozzo success with University Drive.
