Butcher Babies Turn Darkness Into Survival on New Album NIGHTBLOOM
Butcher Babies have officially released NIGHTBLOOM, a 10-song album that pairs the band’s metallic aggression with some of the most vulnerable songwriting of Heidi Shepherd’s career. Released October 2 through Judge & Jury Records, NIGHTBLOOM is Butcher Babies’ first full-length since the 2024 departure of founding co-vocalist Carla Harvey. Shepherd now leads the band as its sole vocalist, opening a new era that sounds heavier, more melodic and intensely personal. The complete album is available now on major streaming services.

Survival, Therapy and Blooming in the Dark
Shepherd began writing NIGHTBLOOM after stepping away from social media and beginning therapy. That process brought suppressed memories and difficult experiences back to the surface—including divorce, betrayal, religious rejection, fractured friendships and the suicide of a former boyfriend. Instead of allowing those experiences to remain buried, Shepherd turned them into songs.“This new album isn’t about the suffering; it’s about the survival,” she explained when the record was announced. That idea gives NIGHTBLOOM its title: meaningful growth can emerge from life’s darkest periods, even when nothing about the environment appears capable of producing something beautiful. The album’s release-week focus track, “Black Clouds Over Georgia,” revisits the collapse of Shepherd’s marriage nearly two decades later. Its official lyric video is scheduled to premiere Tuesday, October 6.
A New Sound With an Active Rock Production Team
NIGHTBLOOM was produced by Howard Benson, whose résumé includes My Chemical Romance, Halestorm, Skillet, Daughtry, Flyleaf and In Flames.Guitarist Henry Flury, former Three Days Grace drummer Neil Sanderson and Joe Rickard served as co-producers, with Rickard also mixing the record. Cameron Mizell and Evan McKeever contributed additional production to “Songbird.” The combination brings Butcher Babies’ groove-metal and thrash foundations into a polished modern-rock environment. The riffs and screams remain, but NIGHTBLOOM gives melody, atmosphere and Shepherd’s personal storytelling more room to breathe.Previously released tracks include “Lost in Your Touch,” “Sincerity,” “Black Dove,” “Leaving California” and the radio-supported “Blame It on the Wind.”
