Chad Gray Gives Christina Aguilera’s ‘Beautiful’ a Heavy New Voice
Mudvayne and HELLYEAH vocalist Chad Gray has released his cover of “Beautiful,” the Linda Perry-written song Christina Aguilera made a hit in 2002. The video premiered through Revolver on October 27, followed by an October 28 announcement from Atom Splitter PR.
Gray’s interpretation keeps the song’s focus on self-acceptance while bringing it into heavier territory. A restrained opening builds toward forceful guitars, drums and the contrast between clean singing and screams that listeners know from his work in metal.
Gray says the song’s themes of insecurity and finding value in oneself have resonated with him for years. Sobriety and personal growth strengthened that connection, leading him to approach the cover as a personal statement rather than simply a change of genre.
He reworked the bridge and added heavier instrumentation to make the arrangement his own. Perry has endorsed the version, praising the conviction and fearlessness in his performance.
Alex Bemis directed the music video. The release follows Gray’s solo headline run, with upcoming appearances including Australia’s Good Things Festival in December and Welcome to Rockville and Sonic Temple in 2027.
